Double chance bet

A double chance bet allows a bettor to bet on two of the three outcomes of a football match on one selection, enhancing the chances of winning.

1X2 betting gives the bettor three outcomes to bet on - home win, draw or away win. Double chance offers the same selections but in a combination of two, lowering the odds offered from the bookmaker.

How double chance betting works

There are three selections available for double chance betting. These are:

  • Home win or draw (1X) - If you choose this selection, the home team must either win or draw for the bet to win - a loss will result in a losing bet.

  • Draw or away win (X2) - If you choose this selection, the away team must either win or draw for the bet to win - a loss will result in a losing bet.

  • Home win or away win (12) - If you choose this bet either the home or away team must win - a draw will result in a losing bet.

Double chance bets are usually settled in 90 minutes, including injury/stoppage time but not extra time or penalties. Check the terms and conditions with your preferred bookmaker before betting.

How to find double chance bets

Double chance betting is a good way of covering yourself if you are unsure that a team will get a result. This market can be used on singles, doubles, trebles or accumulators.

A few things you should consider when betting on this market are:

  • If you are considering backing an underdog, using the draw option (depending where the game is being played) could be worth looking at. It will shorten your odds and reduce your payout but if you are unsure whether they will get the win, then the draw covers you further.

  • If you are doing a standard 1X2 accumulator, then consider using double chance for any selections you may be unsure about. This just gives you that extra leeway in case the team you select slips up.

  • As with any bet, check the form of both teams before placing a bet - research is key.

  • Games that are difficult to call can be a good way of increasing payout. Odds will be lower for this market so finding teams with similar odds will increase the value of a bet.
